Wiki

Today we're going to be talking about the Wiki sources.

Wiki is a type of server software that allows you to work with data on a remote server on the Web. Users interact with the software through a web interface that lets them read, edit and publish content.

At the user's level, a wiki is a website with an “Edit” button. Clicking the “Edit” button allows you to edit the current page and save it for other Internet users to see. Like any other website, it is accessed through a website address, also known as URL which can be bookmarked and shared. It can also be accessed from any device with an Internet connection.

Obviously the most well-known wiki today is Wikipedia - online encyclopedia, where you can find the information on really any possible topic that you can come up with. Of course the trustworhiness of this material will always be doubtful since any person on the planet can edit it, but it is useful at least to find sources on the topic for your own needs.

Speaking of WIKI experience I'd actually love to tell about the Wiki I used a lot some time in the past.

The fact is, I'm a real fan of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series by George Martin, known better for its TV adaptations 'Game of Thrones' and 'House of the Dragon'. I read all the books Martin published on this fictional universe, and it wasn't long till I found out there's an enormous community devoted to his books. They are mostly centered around 'A Wiki of Ice and Fire'.

It is very helpful for 2 reasons: 1st, since most of the books are novels, the information about every specific character/noble House/city etc. is scattered around pages and chapters, and this website performs a great function of summing up all the know information about one specific entity to 1 article.

2nd, this fandom is very keen on inventing theories on the character's real entity/purpose, or the outcome of the events in the novel (mostly due to the fact that it's been a very long time since George Martin released a book), so this website is also good for having all those theories in one place. Moreover, there's a forum attached to it, where you can communicate with people all around the world on the topic you adore.

That's all for today, thanks for attention.
